Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing." --Helen Keller

Did I ever tell you about Good Girl? She is an identity, a personality actually, that lives inside of me. She sometimes rears her scared little head when I'm facing a new challenge. It's her duty to shield me from failure and the judgment of others by keeping me comfortable and quiet. The dilemma is, mediocrity and silence won't get me the best that God has planned for my life. Trust me, I have tried to have it both ways (boldly pursue a big worthwhile dream and live in a comfortable safe zone) for a long time and it does not work! So here's my conclusion, there is no place in my life for Good Girl. In fact, if I keep her around, I believe God will not even take me where He wants me to go because her actions are driven by that God forsaken four letter word -- FEAR.

How do you let go of a crutch that you have held onto all of your life? You acknowledge it, then you confront it by saying, "Thank you, Good Girl for your opinion, but I CAN do this." Then, you step out, sometimes with wobbly legs into the unknown. That's how you reach your significance and that's how you live your dream. You have to want your dream so bad that you take the big leap outside of your comfort zone to go get it. Here is the awesome thing about stepping out of your comfort zone: the more you do it, the bigger your territory gets. The comfort zone I have today is l00 times larger than the comfort zone I had 5 years ago.

So, bottom line: you must choose. To live out your significance, you must say goodbye to fear, past upsets, and scarcity and all their friends commonly known as "Good Girl," "Angry Andy," "Pity Pot Pete," and "Manipulative Mike." And how do you do that?

First: Acknowledge where you are now. Take a deep look at what life is bringing you and what you are giving to life and ask yourself, "Am I happy with the outcome I'm getting?"

Second: If you don't like the outcome you're getting, change your response. Understand that you cannot go forward if you keep looking backwards. All those false identities, Good Girl, Angry Andy, Pity Pot Pete, and Manipulative Mike are born out of past upsets or hurts. Good Girl is driven by fear. I had to tell her, "Thanks, but I CAN do this!" to get a different outcome.

Third: Start surrounding yourself with people and things that support where you are going. Our old self-talk and memories don't always help us. Start filling your space with people that give you honest feedback you can trust and things such as workshops, books, and CD's that support your new outlook.

Forth: Have compassion for yourself and the people who hurt you. People hurt others because they are hurting. Compassion is the first step to forgiveness and the first step to liberating yourself.

Now that's amazing!

Love,

Charlotte
