Adventure Travel in Peru - Welcome to the Big City, Country Boy

When I first came to Peru, I lived in Arequipa for over four months while I was studying Spanish. Even though I grew up on a farm in Minnesota, I had lived in Tokyo and Los Angeles for about 20 years so was used to life in the big city. However after living here in Cotahuasi for over a year and a half, I have become a country boy again. When I go to Arequipa, I usually try to make it as brief as possible. Planning to make a short trip there, I left Cotahuasi at 7:00 on a Wednesday morning. I decided to check out the approach to Coropuna on the way, as I was driving right by there. We would be climbing it in a few weeks and I wanted to get a little more hands on information, especially as it had fresh snow since the last time I was near there. I was a little nervous about the climb as well because Coropuna is 21,079 feet high.

I looked around and found a different road and was able to drive closer to the base of the mountain than last time, finally stopping when boulders blocked the road at an elevation of about 16,000 feet. I then hiked up almost 3,000 feet, on what looked like the best approach route, to about 18,800 feet. This was only about 2,300 feet below the summit, so I was very pleased with that. It took me three hours and 35 minutes to get up there and two hours and 15 minutes to get back to the car. Of course where I turned around is where it really gets steep and I was already starting to really feel the effects of the altitude. I was still below the snow line as well, so that will slow things down considerably when we reach that point. Anyway, it got me thinking that it might even be possible to do as a day hike! Will have to see how it goes this time as a two day hike, and then decide if it is possible to do as a day hike or not.

I arrived in Arequipa that evening about 10:00 and was at Marcio's, where I stay, and in bed before 11:00, hoping to get a good night's sleep. Of course the dogs in the neighborhood had other ideas (they bark all night long), I always forget how much noisier it is in Arequipa than in Cotahuasi. And then the combis and taxis start very early in the morning, honking and hollering for passengers, and the room I sleep in is right on the street and is definitely not sound proof!

In the morning I went to the main post office to pick up a package that was being held at customs. After about an hour of waiting, filling out and signing forms, I finally got my package, surprisingly without having to pay anything. Why they couldn't have just sent it on to Cotahuasi, I don't know.

After that I started on my shopping, buying things that I can't get in Cotahuasi or that are more expensive there. I talked with a shopkeeper friend in the central market and she warned me that there were more pickpockets and thieves than ever and to be extra careful. I have learned to take warnings like that seriously. Unfortunately I was out of money so had to go to the bank before I could finish shopping. I got my money in dollars from the ATM machine and then went to the moneychangers to exchange it for soles. When I got my soles, I put most of them into a money belt that I wear around my waist, tucked into my pants. Of course I was trying not to be too obvious about this, not wanting people to see where I was putting the money. I carefully zipped up the pouch and then started back to the shopping area, crossing the street right in front of the moneychanger's office.

As I got to the other side, I noticed a couple of men running into the street and picking up money, I soon realized that it was mine! Here I was, trying to get the money back from them, trying to pick up some that is still in the street, and then realizing that more money was falling on the street as I moved around! I was totally bewildered, as I knew I had zipped up the pouch and was sure it hadn't developed a hole in it since I last used it. I went back into the moneychangers to get off the busy street and checked the pouch; there was no money in it and no hole. I finally realized that in my trying to put the money in there discreetly, I must not have put it into the pouch but in between the pouch and my pants!

Sure enough there was still more money falling down my pants legs so here I was trying to get that out and make sure I got it all, while standing in a corner of the open office! I'm sure I must have made quite a sight, the man behind the counter kept looking at me strangely. Finally sure that I had it all secure; I left the office. Then I realized that it was possible that a "ladron" (thief, pickpocket) might have seen me and was just waiting for me to come out. I went away from the shopping area, looking over my shoulder often and quickly ducked into an open courtyard of a museum and office complex to gather my wits and count the money. I was about 130 soles short (about $40) but was thankful I hadn't lost more.

I felt that it wasn't a good idea to head back to the shopping area on foot, so decided to go get my car and do my shopping with that, especially as I had to get some heavy things like sugar, powered milk, popcorn, a large case of cereal, as well as a large pack of toilet paper. I parked on the street in a busy wholesale shopping area and first went into a shop to get a dozen packages of my favorite cookies, kind of like a vanilla Oreo with strawberry filling. I had to wait a few minutes while she found 12 packs with all strawberry and just as she put them on the counter, a woman on the street hollered something about my car. I was afraid there was a policewoman coming to give me a ticket so ran out of the store to see my car hooked up to a tow truck and they were just starting to drive off with it! I ran to the truck and pleaded with the policeman to not tow it away but to no avail. He said I would have to go to the "deposito" to get it. Of course I had no idea where or what the deposito was so he said I could ride with them in the truck.

To shorten a long story, 142.50 soles and about an hour later I got my car out of the impound yard, after having to take the filled out forms around the corner to have copies made for them. Almost all government offices here require photocopies of all paper work but they don't have copy machines so you have to go to a store and have copies made. Fortunately, there are copy machines everywhere, in all kinds of stores, so it is not too difficult to find one. I had remembered to take a copy of my passport to the customs office at the post office in the morning and sure enough they wanted that as well.

Later in the afternoon I met my friend Morayma and she went with me to go back and get my cookies that I had left on the counter when my car was towed, as well as do the rest of my shopping. Then I met another friend Maribel in the Square and told her what had happened so she invited me out for roast chicken dinner. It was an expensive day but I learned a couple more lessons about life in the big city, as well as had an enjoyable time with two good friends. Hopefully tomorrow will be uneventful as I finish my shopping and then head back to Cotahuasi.

Costa Rica Scuba Diving - Adventure Tourism Beneath the Waves

Costa Rica scuba diving offers you the chance to swim with manta rays and pow-wow with white-tip reef sharks while admiring the huge schools of grunts and chancho barberfish that gather around the numerous rocky islets on the Pacific coast. Though it's not a considered a dive destination on par with the Red Sea or Papua New Guinea (not many places are - so be careful you aren't spoiled diving there), Costa Rica scuba diving offers plenty of thrills for both the diving enthusiast and the beginner. Rates for scuba diving certification are among the most reasonable in the world. And what's more, your adventure opportunities above water are greater than most other places and include surfing, atv tours, fishing, jungle canopy tours, volcano climbing, and horseback riding to name a few.

I spent a year in Costa Rica, Playas del Coco to be exact, where I earned my divemaster through an internship at Summer Salt Dive Center. Patrick and Sandra, the Swiss owners, run an excellent shop and are incredibly nice and knowledgeable about the diving around Coco - they also have the fastest dive boat in the area. During my time interning and working I dove with huge manta rays, snorkeled with a whale shark, saw a ten-foot bull shark (a real heart stopper), swam alongside a mother and calf humpback whale and saw countless other marine life.

In fact, the density of sea life is something that sets Costa Rica scuba diving on the Pacific coast apart from locations around the Caribbean, including the much-lauded Bay Islands of Roatan and Utila. After diving for a week in Utila I was quite disappointed at the number of animals I saw. Many were very small and aside from the coral, which was beautiful, there wasn't much action. When you are scuba diving in Costa Rica, action is not usually a problem.

One consideration to keep in mind is that while there is much life to be seen while scuba diving in Costa Rica, the visibility varies a great deal. The same currents and plankton that draw in the fish can sometimes reduce visibility, which averages between 20-50ft or 6-15m. However, numerous times when I've experienced a drop in visibility I've also seen huge stingrays materialize, seemingly out of nowhere. Sharks also seem more comfortable, and with an experienced dive guide you're sure to see something interesting. Just be aware that Costa Rica scuba diving is not like jumping in a swimming pool as the Caribbean often is, but if you want to see big fish and not just pretty coral then you'll certainly have your chance.

The best places to go for scuba diving are Playas del Coco on the northwest coast and Cao Island off of the Osa Peninsula. About a forty-five minute boat ride from Playas del Coco, you can reach the popular Catalinas Island to the south, which is where I saw my first manta ray, and Murcielagos Island to the north, which is where I saw my first bull shark. Both sites have excellent diving. Even other closer dive sites like Punta Gorda and Tortugas Island offer a great range of things to see and I led many satisfied divers through those sites. Dive operators in Golfito and Drake Bay can reach Cao Island, which features a nice reef and plenty of fish to see.

As a final note, if you plan on bringing your own equipment don't forget your wetsuit. While water temperatures are normally between 75-84F (24-29C), there are thermoclines (layers of colder water) at depth that can drop temperatures to the mid 60sF (around 18C). Also, dive guides who do a good job should get a decent tip. I once received a thousand colones for a tip, which is equivalent to a $1.85. I can tell you that as a divemaster earning just $400 a month, tips are what help keep you afloat. Finally, you should consider whether you want to visit during rainy or dry season. Dry season is most popular and offers a slightly better visibility on average, but during the rainy season (May-Nov.) crowds are smaller and on days with good visibility the quantity of marine life really seems to multiply.

For more precise advice get in contact with a good dive shop like Summer Salt to find out what current conditions are and to find out about what the diving has been like recently.

Scale the heights of Mount Longonot, or perhaps a week on this walking safari in a National Park. The Great Rift Valley is a wild, untouched land and home to the Masai Tribe. This is an invitation to have a true African experience. The region known for Elephants and Buffalos is home to less well known species such as Columbus monkeys, Impalas, and the shy dik dik. These wild animals are unaccustomed to vehicles and walking offers the unique opportunity to see those smaller but equally fascinating lives of the bush.

2. MOZAMBIQUE ADVENTURE

Hidden between South Africa and Tanzania, Mozambique is fast becoming the next tourist destination. It boasts 2,500 coastlines most of it white beaches and great for the diving enthusiast. Travelling to the North of Mozambique's is no easy feat but there is luxury in the bush. The Gorongosa National Park is set to become one of the best National Parks in the region. Best go early and be the first to discover its wilderness and take full advantage of the sun in luxury on its Pemba beach.

3. NEW ZEALAND WILDERNESS

A definite must for the adventure travel enthusiast. North Island. The smaller of the New Zealands two islands and yet home to Auckland, New Zealand's largest city and the capital Wellington. Experience the North Island on a self-drive tour.

4. MALAYSIA, THE DEATH ROAD TREK

Re -enact history. Between 1942-43, Allied POWs forced by their Japanese captors, undertook long marches across the jungle-clad Malaysian Island of Borneo. Despite appalling conditions, the prisoners never gave up. Almost half of them reached their destination, only to die later. Of the 2434 prisoners 641 were British. The six Australians who were fortunate to have escaped were the sole survivors.

Call it 'Test your resolve' or 'Honour the valiant'; trekking tours now cover the last 140 km of the route across the mountains, of which about 100 km involves actual walking. This is by far the most interesting, scenic and challenging section and can be undertaken by bike.

5. BORDERLANDS OF NORTHERN THAILAND

Ride elephants across the famous bridge over the River Kwai and visit the ancient Buddhist capital of Sukhothai. Travel to the ancient Lanna Kingdom through a large array of temples and its neighbouring provinces. The scenery is stunning with waves of mountains and it's green and lush valleys.

6. NORTHERN INDIA, FORBIDDEN FRONTIERS

Explore Nagaland, once closed to foreigners and with a reputation for head- hunting. The north-east region of India is most fascinating and yet little known. Travel to Nagaland, Arunachal and end your visit with Sikkim, one of the most beautiful Himalayan states. You can visit a Kaziranga National Park, known for one-horned Rhino but the most fascinating adventure is to experience the local culture. I walked across the Himalayas but believe you me, this is a fascinating region that waits to be explored.

7. EL SALVADOR - VOLCANIC CRATER DIVING

El Savador is the ultimate adventure destination. There is so much to do here; climb the volcanic ranges, rafting in the rivers, diving in the lakes or battle with the great surf off stunning beaches. Beneath the surface is the actual dramatic scenery created by the ongoing volcanic activity.

The Icelandic Krona has fallen in value sharply since the start of this year. This means that visitors can now enjoy the best exchange rate in years. There are great deals available. Reykjavik is home to many museums and restaurants and adventure abounds in this land during winter. Try snowmobiling trips on the Myrdalsjokull glacier and see some of the Islands premier attractions like the Geysir and Gulfoos waterfall. For those who want to try something more adventurous and try traversing the snow-bound interior of Iceland on a Super Jeep Expedition. The six-night journey can be the highlight of your life.

9. AUSTRALIA, TRUE WILDERNESS

The greatest Australian blockbuster by Aussie director Baz Luhrmann is named - Australia. With spectacular scenery of the north and Western Australia, it shows true wilderness of the largely uninhabited regions of the red-earthed outback. From Darwin to Kununnurra, the eastern gateway to the Kimberley the extreme terrain seeks travellers with passion and adventure.

10. SOUTH AFRICA, SWIMMING WITH SHARKS

South Africa's Eastern Cape is achingly beautiful with hills and gorges but its coastline is wild and rugged. Every year in June and July, off the Eastern Coast, a spectacular migration event takes place in the sea. Billions of sardines swim northwards in a tongue of cool waters hugging the coast. Sardine shoals become so concentrated that it is worthwhile for dolphins, sharks and gannets to assemble here and offer a great opportunity to see these large predators. Take a diving adventure and be enthralled with Bond like views.

Adventure Abounds in Dubai

Dubai is a city of extravagance and opulence. It is fast becoming one of the world's biggest financial centres and is a stunning place to visit. Flanked by the Persian Gulf, miles of sand dunes and the imposing Hajar mountain range, Dubai is the perfect place for a city break, with both water and land adventures.

There are many new experiences to be gained from visiting Dubai, and specifically worth a mention are the desert safaris adventures, which are a unique way to explore the deserts surrounding Dubai. Once started, you'll be thankful for the air-conditioned four-wheel drive vehicle that most of the safaris take place in; at times the heat can be overwhelming.

Alternatively, you may wish to try your hand at dune-driving, which is an incredibly thrilling activity where you drive over the sand dunes; the aim of which being to try to keep the car moving on the ever-shifting surface.

Sand-skiing is another high-speed activity that is not for the faint-hearted. It involves donning something akin to a snowboard and hurling yourself down the side of one of the massive dunes outside Dubai. If you are lucky, you may even catch some locals getting up speed in a traditional camel race across the desert tracks.

If sea, rather than sand, appeals more, Dubai has all sorts to offer. Water sports are considered to be one of the major reasons why people visit Dubai and the selection is vast. You can do anything from snorkeling and scuba diving to jet-skiing and sailing. There are plenty of water sports to watch as well, with some key sailing regattas and water sports competitions being held in Dubai each year.

Another great way to experience Dubai's city from the water is on a Dhow Cruise. A dhow is a type of traditional Arabic boat, which you can board to tour Dubai's Creek - the strip of water that divides the city's financial area. The skyline and the beaches look incredible from this view and it is perhaps a lot less work than wind-surfing!

If exploring Dubai by water is not of interest then you can experience some of Dubai's extravagance for yourself by taking a helicopter tour to explore the city and the picturesque Hajar Mountains from the air.

If, during your visit the weather's not at its best, then a fun activity in such conditions is to try your hand at go-karting. Dubai houses the Middle East's first indoor go-karting centre; spread over forty thousand square feet, which is thankfully, air-conditioned. However, there are lots of other activities on at the centre to have an attempt at, should getting behind the wheel not be your cup of tea.

With there being no shortage of adventures to be had on a city break in Dubai, it is an area where you can come away with new experiences and of course, wonderful memories.

Treasure Hunts Aren't Just for Pirates: Turn Any Kids Party Into a Fun Adventure!

Treasure hunts have become increasingly popular for adults in the movies, in games, and in real life. As parents are constantly faced with finding new and creative ways to entertain their children, whether it be on family night or with friends and classmates at birthday parties and other get-togethers, why not let your kids in on the fun by orchestrating an amazingly unique and fun treasure hunt just for them?

Incorporating a fun, challenging, and fast-paced treasure hunt into your party will help break the ice and bring kids together as a team, indoors or out, following clues and solving rhymes and riddles step-by-step in their quest to capture the prize, ultimately evoking squeals of excitement at each clue discovered. Not only are treasure hunts relatively inexpensive, they are unique, memorable, interactive, and educational adventure games that challenge the imagination and can be played again and again. Most importantly, kids love them!

Although a pirate theme is the most logical choice for a treasure hunt party, it may not be your child's first choice, and this certainly should not limit your ability to adapt a treasure hunt to any party theme. Treasure hunts arent just for pirates. Tradition has dictated that pirates are the great treasure hunters, but the fact of the matter is treasure hunts are loved by boys, girls, and grown-ups alike, and make a great addition to any party theme. Treasure hunts can be simply adapted with a storyline and a variety of decorations to fit into any party plan.

For example, to adapt a treasure hunt for a superhero-themed party, you might announce that a notorious villain has robbed the city bank, and a superhero needs your help! Solve the clues he has left behind to recover the loot and save the city! Fill a superhero bank or centerpiece with play money, gold-wrapped candy coins, and other favors to later sneak away during the party before announcing the theft and sending the crime fighters on their mission. Other themes and decorations might revolve around a princess whose jewels were stolen, the latest TV cartoon characters, pop idols, a holiday, or your child might want to create their own theme.

That being said, be careful not to fall into the parent trap of spending a small fortune buying themed party goods. Consider purchasing just a few themed bright and colorful decorations and/or centerpieces, and then either complement them with less expensive coordinating party supplies and decorations, or make your own -- there are plenty of great fun ways to put you and your child's artistic talent to work to customize your party.

Some great craft ideas kids might enjoy making or having at their party include authentic-looking weathered pirate treasure maps, princess crowns and jewelry, spyglasses made from paper towel rolls, piatas (handmade or bought), cardboard hooks inserted into the bottom of styrofoam cups to wear on their hands like Captain Hook, paper or felt decorated pirate hats, and bejeweled and personalized loot bags, to name only a few.

Although it requires a little creativity, time, and resources, you can make and stage your own treasure hunt game to play as a group or competitively in teams. Design and hide 10 clever clues that lead players progressively from one clue to the next, hidden amongst common objects, to ultimately discover the hidden treasure, which might be sacks of loot consisting of gift certificates, cupcakes, party favors, toys, gold foil-wrapped coins, games, or other items valuable to children.

Alternatively, if you're short on time, money, and party ideas like many busy parents and party planners, online sites such as Treasure-Adventure.com offer affordable complete treasure hunts with pre-made custom clues full of rhymes and riddles that kids love to solve, the design of which can be the most time-consuming and difficult part of preparing a treasure hunt.

Although the treasure hunt will likely be the main attraction since it is the most action-packed and engaging, don't necessarily limit other activities that might complement the hunt such as a cannonball toss using bean bags or water balloons, "Walk the Plank" using a shallow pool full of plastic alligators and snakes, pan for gold using gold spray-painted rock nuggets, dress in costumes, hold a peg-leg relay, make a castle or pirate ship out of an appliance box, play "Blackbeard says," etc. -- the sky is the limit! Applying a little creativity will leave your party guests with a lot of lasting memories of their adventurous day at your childs party.

Treasure hunts are also not just limited to children or birthday parties, but are perfect for family fun night, slumber parties, classroom parties, picnics, and other group events. Treasure hunts bring parties alive with hours of challenging and fun entertainment, with the thrill of the hunt along with the solving of puzzles often being the most enjoyable and memorable part of the day. And don't think you can't top your last party. By using a variety of themes, new treasure hunt clues and decorations, and a little innovation, you can host many more truly fabulous parties for years to come that never go out of style and your guests will talk about long after the party is over.

If you're up to the challenge, spyglass and compass in hand, yer prize is in sight, so let the adventure begin!

To purchase inexpensive ready-to-play treasure hunt games online and find more valuable information on treasure hunt party planning, visit Treasure-Adventure.com online at http://www.treasure-adventure.com. Games come complete with hiding guides to help you coordinate and pull off the perfect hunt and bring your party to life, come in a variety of themes such as for outdoor and classroom events, and the Treasure-Adventure.com web site also offers party supplies, free downloadable kids activities and games, party and craft ideas such as how to make an authentic looking pirate map, treasure hunting tips, and legends of lost treasure.

Ski Vacations: Adventure Holidays

Skiing is an adventure that many people love. It's fun to ski on a nice white patch of ice and gain speed. Modern skiing has gradually branched out from snowshoeing. A Norwegian, Sondre Norheim, is regarded as the father of modern skiing. In the early 1800's he invented Slalom, which is known today as Telemark skiing.

While skiing is mostly regarded as sport, there are many practical transportation uses in colder climates, and many militaries train troops in skiing. Mostly people wear warm clothing and follow runs, trails or slopes. Usually ski routes are checked for safety. Some skiers also enjoy cross-country skiing. If one is a beginner and not an expert, it is much safer to stay within the boundaries of the resort. Some European countries have banned cross-country skiing due to the incidents of avalanche, and the high cost of search and rescue operations.

Ski lovers feel a rush when they ski, a feeling similar to flying. It has become hugely popular now, and there are many fine ski schools where one can learn the basics.

UK Youth Mobility Visa- The New UK Working Holiday Visa

As of November 2008 the UK working holiday visa has been replaced by a new points based system. This new scheme has come with a number of new restrictions and allowances for people looking for the adventure and experience of working and holidaying in the United Kingdom.

The role of the Youth Mobility Visa is to allow applicants the ability to work in the UK primarily to fund their holiday and travel experiences.

Most notably the new visa is only available to eligible citizens of countries offering a reciprocal scheme to British youth. So far only Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Japan run a reciprocal program, closing applications from South Africa, the USA and many current and former commonwealth countries.

This new visa has extended the working period from 12 months to the full 2 years validity of the visa, which many applicants of the former Working Holiday Visa has struggled to comply with. The visa is not available for extension or renewal and applicants must leave the United Kingdom on or before the end date of the visa or face breaking UK immigration laws and subsequent deportation.

The cost of applying has fallen by almost half down to 99GBP, and successful applications are granted within 6 - 8 weeks.

Applicants can accrue the 50 points required for eligibility of the Youth Mobility Visa by meeting the following criteria

  • 30 points - Be a citizen of Australia, Canada, New Zealand or Japan
  • 10 points - Be over the age of 18
  • 10 points - Have proof of access to 1600GBP or equivalent to fund the initial stay in the UK

Applicants must not have any dependent children under the age of 18, and must not have been in the UK previously as a working holiday maker or on the Youth mobility scheme.

All this information is available on the British Home office website here and for more information on working and holidaying in the UK including obtaining tax numbers and opening bank accounts visit my site, below.

Adventure Cruise Travelers' Guide

Cruise ship travel is exciting and enjoyable that an adventurous person should not miss. If you are the type who wants to move from one place to another, try boarding a ship for a change. It will be a very special experience.

A cruising adventure is admittedly expensive but you will be pampered like a king. The staff will always be a step ahead of you to assist you in everything you do. A cruising vacation takes you to lots of ports of call, exotic islands and new countries! Onboard a ship is like a floating community, with lots of activities you can participate in, depending on your interest.

Here are some tips to guide you in planning your cruise ship adventure:

1. Know what you want on your vacation and select the appropriate cruise for you. Different cruise lines cater to different types of individuals. For example, if you're an adventurer, you can choose a cruise which offers extreme sports like scuba diving, parachuting and rock climbing.

Other factors to consider in selecting your cruise include:

Destinations
On-board activities
Entertainment
Food

2. Conduct an online shopping trip for great deals offered by cruise lines. Read reviews in magazines and online websites. Bring company. Some cruise lines offer discounts when buying multiple tickets.

3. Make an advance booking for a popular tour.

4. Ask your travel agent the recommended activities and places to visit. They always know better.

5. Don't trust strangers. Be with a friend or trusted companion always.

6. Read in advance about the places you will be visiting. Be aware of local laws.

7. Remember the location of your boat before leaving for a land tour. Take note of the name of the cruise line and the agents of port of call.

8. Always keep IDs and other pertinent documentations safe in your bag.

9. Know the time the ship leaves and how long it will take you to get back on board in case you feel like exploring by yourself. Remember that the ship has a schedule to follow and it's your responsibility to return on time.

10. Inform your family and friends about important information about your trip, like your destination, the name of the ship and the duration of your trip.

11. Ask the cruise director about the finest places to dine if you want to eat in the city.

12. Be informed of the current exchange rates.

13. Be alert. There are many thieves in crowded places.

14. Make the most out of your travel. Time is of the essence when traveling.

Adventure Holiday Travel Insurance - Are You Really Indiana Jones?

Wherever your lust for travel and adventure may lead, it is smart to book with an established tour company. Going it alone can be an exciting fantasy, but in practice may not be so easy to pull off and you can't learn everything from a book. Tour companies hire experienced guides to make the experience easier and more enjoyable - and bonuses like keeping you away from pretty but potentially unfriendly plants and bugs!

Much as you might fancy yourself as Indiana Jones, donning the same outfit will not turn you into a super hero overnight. The average traveller, spending most of the year desk-bound, is unlikely to have the stamina or savvy to survive an adventure holiday unscathed without the benefit of an experienced guide. Potential hazards could include nasty stomach bugs, stings and bites, altitude sickness, heatstroke, or worse. Be honest, how well would you cope on the other side of the world, away from your mobile phone, PC, email, and all the gadgets you rely on in your comfort zone? An adventure sports holiday exists for just about any place on earth and any activity.

Trekking holidays come in various levels of difficulty, so choose the one that suits your ability. Be brutally honest with yourself about your level of fitness and schedule a health check with your GP before booking. How well you do will depend largely on the terrain and grades, as well as the altitude, temperature and weather. For instance, would you want to carry your own backpack up a steep grade? Would you prefer an easier tour, with some tea and sympathy - and a Sherpa? Perhaps trekking in a tropical rainforest, Hawaiian volcano, or the Iguau Falls of Latin America is your dream? Maybe scuba diving in Belize, horse riding in Costa Rica, or glacier trekking in Patagonia is more your style. Are you terrified of spiders and snakes? Your fears are not going to dissolve when you come face to face with them! Do you dream of a mountain bike tour through U.S. National Parks, or scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef? Wildlife and bird-watching tours are very popular, whether you choose an overland safari, trek through the mountains, or bird-watching tour in Panama.

Choosing the best time of year to travel will obviously depend on which hemisphere you are heading for, and what you hope to see and experience. Another vital part of planning an adventure sports holiday is taking out adequate travel insurance to cover all the activities you intend to participate in. Insurance policies vary and the activities you have planned may only be covered on an incidental or casual basis (i.e. not the main purpose of the holiday, such as a safari or sailing holiday). Check the policy wording carefully, and make sure the levels of cover are suitable - especially the medical cover. If in doubt, call and ask. Tropical destinations may mean exposure to extreme heat and humidity.

Horse trekking could leave you feeling as sore and bandy as John Wayne. An inshore sailing trip of the Mediterranean coast may look idyllic - as you picture yourself lounging glamorously on the foredeck in your bikini - but what if you get sea-sick and end up with serious dehydration? Chances are that nothing negative will ruin your trip, but if the worst should happen you will be glad to have the peace of mind of travel insurance - and a 24-hour emergency number to call for help. If your trip might include winter sports like skiing, boarding, dog-sledding or snowshoeing, always check whether winter sports cover is included in your travel insurance policy. It doesn't cost much to add, and the benefits are well worth it - considering a broken leg while skiing in Colorado could set you back 20,000+.

A Backpacker policy may be the cheapest choice - as long as you understand the limits on luggage and valuables. So, do you still think you're Indiana Jones or Bear Grylls? Take a reality check of your abilities and physical and mental shape, then take steps to plan your adventure holiday accordingly. Find the best Travel Insurance policy to cover all the activities you plan to participate in, then forget your worries and go for it!

Bedroom Decorating - 7 Easy Tips For Creating a Yellow Submarine Underwater Adventure Bedroom Theme

Children love to explore. What better way to set their imagination free than creating their own underwater adventure themed bedroom? It's an easy and affordable bedroom theme to complete when you follow the seven simple steps outlined in this article.

1. Use water themed wallpaper to set the theme of your room.

There are several water themed wallpaper selections available today. You will want to select one of the papers available that simulate an under the ocean theme to create the perfect backdrop for aquatic style bedroom designs.

2. Install a mural or get artistic with paint.

Why not hang a submarine wall mural over your water themed wallpaper to make it a focal point in the room? If you are the artistic type, paint one wall blue to match the wallpaper and then draw your submarine in pencil and fill in with paint to create your own custom submarine wall accent.

3. Marine life wall decals set the theme.

Wall decals are removable and reusable which makes them the perfect addition when creating a theme in any room. Not only will the wall decals bring a fun theme into your room, but they can add hours of entertainment for your children. Your child can put fish, coral, sharks and other sea life all over the walls!

4. Go bargain shopping.

Check your local discount stores and thrift stores and try to find a fish theme lamp. There are many nautical and fish themed lamps available that would make an adorable addition to any room decorated with an underwater theme.

5. Try blue carpeting or a rug.

By using a carpeting or rug in a tone that matches your wallpaper, you will be simulating the water on the ground and carrying your design theme onto the floor. This will help your child feel that they are a part of the adventure.

6. Create your own foam core fish.

Another idea that is easy to implement is creating your own foam core fish. You can find your favorite fish photos online, cut them out and then glue them onto foam core. Next, cut the shapes out of the foam core and use adhesive squares to make the fish stand off of the accent or hang from the ceiling for a 3-D effect. If you are going to hang them from the ceiling, remember to make them double sided so that they seem more realistic.

7. Use underwater themed accents as finishing touches.

Consider a pirate treasure chest that will double as storage. Or, how about a salt water fish tank on a desk or dresser? Use your imagination to put together a coral display on a book shelf or any other underwater creative that you and your child can invent.

By the way, if you've enjoyed this article and are interested in completing this theme in your home, be sure to check out the many styles of children's wallpaper available at http://www.usawallpaper.com/ to get you started.

The Dolphin Coast of Wales

Quite often the response I get when I tell people that I have been watching Dolphins, is where? ... They do not mean where as in which part of the coast, but in which part of the world! Why go anywhere else, West Wales has lots of Cetaceans, Dolphins, Porpoises and occasionally Whales!

It started with...

Back in the 1970's I was fishing off the rocks alongside the beach at Aberporth. It was sunny with plenty of bathers in the small bay. My feeble attempt at catching fish had become an exercise in drowsy meditation. Suddenly my reverie was broken by the sight of a fast moving pod of Dolphins coming in from the distance. The classic horror film "Jaws" was fresh in our minds and the Dolphins seemed to be heading in to the beach. It occurred to me that if they came right in, there would be mass panic as few of the bathers would differentiate between Sharks and Dolphins! A passing speedboat deflected the dolphins course, they turned for the south and disappeared as quickly as they appeared. None of the bathers had seen them but I had, my first wild British Dolphin encounter!

Even in the winter...

A couple of years ago I had a meeting with Steve Hartley of Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Group, with whom Sea Trust have close links through the Wildlife Trust. It was a murky damp winters day. Newquay had that air of ghost-town desolation that out of season seaside towns exude.

I was early and as I parked my car in the car park on the front, my eyes strayed over the bay. As I did so a Bottlenose Dolphins cruised by, not more than 20 metres from the beach. She was accompanied by a smaller calf. I grabbed my binoculars and noticed at least half a dozen more in a little group about 50 metres out . The other two joined them and they began breaching, leaping huge leaps, crashing back into the sea, tail slapping, the whole group going crazy giving me a private show as the only spectator.

On our Strumble Head "New Years Day 2008 Porpoise Watch", I arrived to find several people already watching a group of big Risso's Dolphins passing by. Their huge raked fins and scarred backs clearly visible, as they slowly and majestically cruised past heading out to sea. Not to be upstaged, Harbour Porpoises took their place popping up here and there and putting on a show . A big grey seal added to the list of sea mammals that entertained us throughout the afternoon starting the year off splendidly.

Summer bonanza.

In July, half way along we saw a couple of Harbour Porpoises heading away at speed as if frightened. We could see Gannets feeding at the harbour entrance so we made our way to the end. A mixed group of eight Bottlenose Dolphins, adults with juveniles and one smaller calf were feeding on a mackerel shoal with Gannets plunging in around them . Bottlenose Dolphins occasionally kill Porpoises, so no wonder they vamoosed.

Whilst filming the Bottles' I got calls from several Sea Trust supporters telling me there were also Common Dolphins actually in the harbour. We drove round to the Parrog at Goodwick for a better view and were astounded to discover an eight foot long Porbeagle Shark cruising just off the beach obviously a bit lost! I filmed it, getting some great footage as it came right up to my feet as I stood on the wooden planking of one of the sea defences. Apart from the shark there was a group of four Common Dolphins milling around in the harbour probably trying to keep out of the way of the Bottlenose Dolphins and the Shark!

You could not guarantee such spectacles every day but somewhere or other along our coast you can bet there will be cetaceans to see almost any day of the year. If you get out on a boat it's even more likely. We see them regularly from the "Stena Europe" ferry on our Sea Trust surveys.

We at Sea Trust are committed to protecting and caring for our marine environment and its wildlife. Our aim is to encourage conservation led sustainable ecotourism. visit us in our new base, the Ocean Lab, Fishguard Harbour Pembrokeshire and find out more!

Review - Affiliate Adventure and Making Money With Online Ads

I recently got hold of affiliate adventure - when I realised that an exclusive number of people are earning a living and profiting quite a sum of money by just writing online ads from their homes.

You must have notice ads that run like this seeking part time or full time workers who can work from home a few hours a week on the Internet no experience or special skills are required all you need is a computer and access to the Internet your job is to type online ads and submit into online forms.

This is a common advert you come across rather often. It always sounds too good to be true?

Ever thought of giving it a try or better still, have you ever tried it ?

I thought it was the usual "wouldn't you like to be your own boss and work directly from home", kinda stuff, but this process turned out to be interesting. In short, it is a system that practically does make you quite a bit of income, that is if you work conscientiously for around an hour a day. That is of course, once you set shop and get the hang of things!

The sad aspect is that the thought of making thousands of dollars every month, sounded too good to pass off, so you evidently get suckered into it.

Although you may harbor a bit of skepticism, its definitely, worth a try. Besides, the concept is rather simple and on top of it all it doesn't cost much, the best part it is fun.

Now how does this whole thing-ma-jig work?

You visit ClickBank and identify a product with an affiliate program. Then set up an advertising campaign at a PPC search engine like Google and choose how much you want to pay per click. Write a three-line advertisement and add your affiliate link. Whenever anyone clicks through your ad and buys the product, you earn a commission.

Those who are new to the Adword concept, would find this extremely exciting.. and this would also give them a boost to their entry into the world of AdWords.

Start by conducting a few test campaigns and soon you would be having one or two showing results. Then draft a time frame and over that period of time, test a couple of campaigns for a whole range of affiliate products. It is likely that within a month, you could be having several profitable campaigns.

While the concept is simple, getting your campaigns to run profitably takes some expertise.

This is one of the areas, where Affiliate Adventure can help you.

They say it is so easy, that just about anyone, even your granny can do this.. although that is something I would have personally like to see... let's not go into details.. and let the poor granny rest in peace!

Basically with Affiliate Adventure you seem to get the following.

  • It shows you exactly how to start this business and which mistakes to avoid from the very beginning
  • It helps you make money promoting affiliate programs on pay per click search engines
  • It shows you where to find those profitable affiliate products and affiliate programs
  • It helps you set up a pay per click advertising campaign that will result in high conversion rates
  • It shows you how to discover secret niches that other affiliate marketers don't know about
  • It shows you how to test a product thoroughly
  • It shows you fine-tuning techniques to make your campaigns profitable
  • It also helps you find FREE tools that will show you the exact keywords you should use

Continue to experiment with your campaigns to ensure you stay at the forefront of your field for Google AdWords campaigns. Also listed at this link are some good articles and Google Guides, that could help in your AdWord campaigns.

If you intend using pay per click search engines, then you know already that you'll be spending quite a lot of money on advertising. So I guess, (I know I am going over the limit, when I say it is smart to invest in Affiliate-Adventure). But it is something that will put you on a fast track to profitable ad campaigns.

Let's put it this way, if you figure this online ads thingy out, the affiliate adventure book will pay for itself in no time.

Pampalona, San Fermin - Bull Running Festival

If you're looking for something to really get the adrenalin pumping, why not try out-running a bunch of 600 pound bulls. In mid July 95 during a surf trip around the European coastline I dropped into Pampalona to take part in the famous bull running festival, in which thousands of nutters (and myself) ran down a stretch of winding streets, being chased by about 10 angry bulls.

The event starts at 8:00am, every morning for a week, where if you are taking part you find yourself a spot within the crowd. The run starts in a stretch of old style Spanish street between two tall buildings, loaded with locals making the sign of cross on their foreheads down to the fearless participants below. As you can imagine, it's slightly unnerving and would be more so if the skin-full of red wine and cola, dancing & no sleep, hadn't numbed the nerves a tad. It's quite a sight to behold, if you can imagine a small version of the London Marathon, only with thousands of drunken Spaniards and tourists all dressed in white with red scarves. If you think it sounds like a death wish, it isn't, because you do get to protect yourself with a rolled up newspaper! Yes that will protect your butt cheeks from the impending doom of a bulls horn. Not!

Your position in the crowd determines your initial safety during the first part of the run. If you're right at the front you will most likely get into the arena before seeing a bull (as long as you stay on you feet). If you're at the back the bulls will definitely pass you. So for your first time its best to go near the front until you get the gist of what's going. We positioned are selves in the front 3rd.

The first gun is for everyone to start running. Running is a slight exaggeration as, if you do run, you will trip over the person in front of you. So you barely make a slow trot along with the rest of crowd. Then moments later the second gun sounds. The bulls are free and running, at full pelt I expect.

The course is 3/4 mile in total and goes from being totally surrounded by buildings with nowhere to escape, to open sections, which have been marked out by wooden barriers sunken into the ground. These are also pretty hard to escape over, as there are teams of spectators peering over and waiting to push the frantic and afraid back into the affray.

Chaos is about the best term to describe the run and that was without even seeing a bull on the course. You then run through the entrance to the arena, which is a concrete corridor about 50 feet long. This is the most dangerous spot and one you definitely don't want to get involved in a pile up here. Once through the entrance you run into the arena, a great way to see it for the first time and for the Life of Brian fans amongst you, a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to live out the gladiator scene for real. The bulls eventually appear, bringing you back to reality and run straight through the crowd into an enclosure at the back of the arena. Next "they" (the crazy perpetrators of the event who are obviously hell bent on killing or at least maiming the odd participant) let smaller, more energetic bulls out, one at-a-time, to cause some mayhem. These bulls have leather protectors on their horns to protect the crowd at least, meaning that if you do get charged you won't die, a slow and pain full death, but you might get thrown into the air a few feet and land on your head! The hard bit about this is that there are a thousand other people in the bull ring, which makes spotting the bulls very difficult. Suddenly the crowd in front of you parts to reveal a crazed bull running directly at you at full pelt, head down and closing fast. My natural instinct was to run and throw myself head first over the 6 foot high barrier. In a normal situation this would be seen as a reckless and dangerous stunt but considering the circumstances I felt it was a carefully considered life saving maneuver and one that meant I survived with everything but my pride intact!

Once everyone has got used to the smaller bulls, they let the, now rested, larger bulls out into the crowd, to shake things up-a-bit. This is obviously much more dangerous, as you can imagine, what could happen if one of these steps on your head. Luckily during our run there were no serious injuries (I think), but they do have severe injuries all the time, so don't take this past-time too lightly. The year that I ran an American chap aged 22 died and became one of the 15 death since 1924. In fact everyday they post pictures of that day's run for the participants to buy. Also all around the town there are pictures from the past, with some pretty sobering images of accidents that have happened. I suppose this is done to remind the runners that the worst thing that can happen is death! A pretty extreme sport all-in-all!

Tips for survival at the Pampalona - San Fermin

Try and familiarise yourself with the course before hand. Don't run before you have watched a run. Be aware that falling and being trampled by people is one of the main dangers. If you fall, stay down, cover your head & wait until an onlooker taps you on the shoulder. Its more dangerous to try and get up at this stage. Be aware that Callejon-Plaza de Toros and the end section of Cuesta de Santo Domingo are the most dangerous area. These spots have claimed a total of 12 lives over the years Stay tight to the corners as the bulls run wide. Don't be drunk and get some sleep. Even with this advice running the bulls at Pampalona can be extremely dangerous.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world, with its almost 3000 individual reefs nestled underwater. The coral polyps of the reef system also brings to life the largest living architecture in a marine environment. Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and regarded as one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef is an overwhelming natural resource that has also been exposed to the challenges of environmental degradation. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is just one of those institutions that operate to remediate marine -adverse human activities and lobby for the protection of this natural wonder.

Diving and Snorkeling for Everyone

Snorkeling and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef is not just an eye-candy experience. A mere encounter of its bounties would make you realize that it is indeed worthy of preservation. The underwater section of the reef system is home to whales, manatees, turtles, seahorses, and mollusks. Meanwhile, fish species such as clown fishes, coral trout and red bass also spawn all around the coral reef. So make sure you are geared up with an H2Odyssey MS12 and SS12 Mask and Snorkel combo when scuba diving or snorkeling in the great warm waters of the barrier reef.

The large marine ecosystems of the site call for the services of boat facilities such as liveaboard cruisers that cater to the never-ending interests of both local and tourist divers. Perfect for scuba divers and non-scuba divers alike, liveaboards will conveniently ferry you to the reefs for a few hours of diving and snorkeling fun. Scuba divers can arrange for a trip with a range of glass-bottomed boats and underwater observation facilities. If scuba diving is your fancy, trust the Aeris Coral Buoyancy Compensator to sustain neutral buoyancy, support flexible movements and allow you to enjoy more of the natural beauty underwater.

Fun and Adventure in Tulum

Tulum is known to the world for its Mayan Ruins and magnificent beaches. Its pristine white sand, crystal blue waters, the lush tropical jungle and world famous archaeological sites, are the natural wonders that Tulum is most sought after for.

Tulum is actually conformed to three parts. These are the Tulum Pueblo (town); Tulum Playa (beach); and Tulum Ruinas (ruins). There is so much to do at a short distance and you will find many fun things to look after.

Tulum's magic begins in its splendid archeological sites. The Tulum ruins that rest majestically on the top of a cliff over the turquoise Caribbean Sea , carry the history of the Mayan people. These are also said to be the most well preserved Mayan ruins in the world. The exquisiteness of this place is unbelievable.

One should also not forget to visit the Cenotes. This is one of the exceptional features in the region. Cenote dipping and cave and cavern diving are unique activities that can only be practiced in this area of Mexico. But take note, inorder to dive in caverns you are required to have an approved certification. Cenotes were considered sacred among the Mayan civilization.

The beaches of Tulum are magnificent. The beach beckons for some serious swimming, or just wading by the shore. The crystal waters are home to different types of corals and hundreds of species of fish. Its enormous array of marine life makes it a splendid scenario for open water diving. Remember not to handle the coral because many of them can leave you a horrible rash.

Tulum can feed your need for adventure. The long stretches of beaches, warm clear turquoise waters and fairly consistent winds made this place a great spot for kiteboarding. This the latest water sport practiced in Tulum. The only thing is the winds are not as strong as other places in the world. But this would be a great opportunity for beginners.

The Tulum hotel zone consists of few hotels lining the beach. Again this is the perfect place for those seeking peace and tranquility. You can choose from comfortable lodging with all the facilities is available to rustic cabanas lighted by candles.

The Camino is another challenging trek that requires a good amount of fitness and planning, but it's well worth the effort.

Whichever path you take, you're sure to see unusual craggy landscapes and a variety of African wildlife.

The Swiss Alps are world renowned for their breathtaking beauty and what better way to experience this than by trekking the age-old paths. These treks may not be your standard luxury resort travel but they are certainly more unusual than regular vacations and will leave you with some of your most remarkable lifetime memories.

African Vacations - Safari Packages to South Africa

South Africa is knew by people in different ways: some know about it that was the last country in the world which abolished the apartheid regime, others appreciate the excellent wines from this African country, some remember that there took place a football world championship, but much more people heard about this land as a great spot for African vacations, especially in wildlife parks such as Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand Game Reserve. African safari packages are numerous and are a type of vacations more and more requested by holiday makers. This happens because people saw many documentary movies about wildlife of Africa and about the interesting and unique cultures of peoples who live there. Also, many vacationers understood how fragile is the life on the planet Earth and want to see some of the last unspoiled parts of it.

Safari packages to South Africa are in harsh competition with safaris offered by other countries, especially from Namibia, Tanzania and Kenya, but also from other countries like Uganda, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Still many tourists prefer to buy vacation packages to this country even if sometimes other countries offer more affordable deals. Why happens this? Foremost, because of the richness of wildlife from the national parks and game reserves in this African country. There are many areas where can be seen many species of animals, but the most renowned are Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Kruger National Park, with 18,989 square km (7,332 sq mi), is the largest game reserve in South Africa. Together with Gonarezhou National Park from Zimbabwe and with the Limpopo National Park from Mozambique it make up the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Kruger is renowned for the many bird species (517) but also for the many mammals species (147), including the most demanded of all, called the "Big Five": lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros. There are plenty of safari packages to Kruger National Park, some of them being "Savanna Private Game Reserve Package in Kruger National Park", "Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge Package in Kruger National Park", "The Classic Kruger National Park Tour", and "Wildlife Experience in Kruger National Park".

Sabi Sand Game Reserve is a private owned park which actually is comprised of more smaller game reserves named Mala Mala, Singita, Exeter, Djuma, Londolozi, Lion Sands, Sabi Sabi and Ulusaba. The entire area is home for a multitude of wild animals like cheetah, elephants, lions, buffalo, leopard, rhinos, and others. Because there is no barrier between this park and Kruger the animals can move free, so the game viewing is really spectacular! Some packages include only this park, while others include visits to more game reserves. Some safari packages that include Sabi Sand are "Panorama Route and Big 5 Safari: Sabi Sand Wildlife Reserve" and "Wildlife Experience at Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge".

South African vacations are not limited, of course, at this two main holiday spots. There are also other safaris which include wider areas, some of the most requested trips being "South African Excursion", "3 Day Garden Route - Cape Town to Port Elizabeth", "Dolphin Coast and Big Five Safari", "Highlights of South Africa", "16 Day South Africa Adventure - Cape Town to Johannesburg", and "6 Day Rhino Route Durban - Johannesburg".

More information about African safari packages can be found on African Safari Deals. This article is owned by Conqueror Web Design & SEO Outsourcing.

Sea Fishing in the Oban Area

Sea fishing in the Oban area is one of the most exciting and varied spots in the UK. Home to record skate and huge pollack, cod, ling and conger, Argyll's coastline is longer than France's and offers fishing over wrecks, reefs, caves, open water and sea lochs. Add to this beautiful scenery of islands, tidal races (including the world's third largest whirlpool - the Corryvreckan), and wildlife such as whales, dolphins and sea eagles, and it makes for a must visit destination for novice or experienced anglers alike.

Shore vs Boat

Most species in the area can be caught from both shore and boat. There are some excellent shore marks such as Dunollie Point on the Ganavan Road just past Oban. The most common fish caught from the shore are mackerel, pollack, spurdog, thornback ray, dogfish, cod, coalfish and a variety of flatties. All will be hooked on rag and lugworm as well as mackerel strips, mussel and peeler crab. However, boat fishing offers a much bigger catch and species seldom caught from the shore. Wreck and reef fishing is most popular and large catches are common. Charter boats operate out of Oban, Craobh Marina and Balvicar and are well-equipped with skippers providing tackle and a wealth of knowledge of local marks.

Specimen Skate

The British record skate (227lbs) was caught near Tobermory on the Isle of Mull and the area often yields fish well over the 200lb mark which attracts anglers from all over the UK. Skate can be caught all year round although the best chances of catching larger ones is between August to October. As with all big game fishing, the right tackle is essential. Ideally, this is a 50lb class rod with a heavy reel loaded with 50lb line attached to a harness and butt rest. The rig should be a simple one with a sliding boom with swivel link with a size 10 bronzed hook. There is no need for a wire trace as skate don't have large, sharp teeth. However, commercial grade monofilament around 200lbs is recommended. The best bait is a whole coalfish, mackerel or pollack of 1-2lbs with one fillet cut off which produces more blood and scent to attract the fish. Most skate caught in the UK are tagged and returned and anglers are encouraged to do this to preserve numbers of this rare, hard-fighting fish.

Loch Etive

Loch Etive stretches 20 miles inland from its mouth near Connel and the famous tidal Falls of Lora. It is one of the most unique lochs in the UK as it has two sets of narrows that affect the tide in such a way that there can be a two hour difference between high tide at the mouth of the loch and Bonawe only 5 miles away. The salt content is affected by this strange effect which results in a very diverse range of fish. For example, brown trout share the same marks as pollack and spurdog (the loch yielded the Scottish shore record of 15lb 3oz). Good marks are Ardchattan Priory and Bonawe Quarry further up the loch on the north shore, and the windsock near Connel Bridge. Boats hire is available from Taynuilt pier. Spinning here will usually catch pollack, saithe and trout in warmer months whilst bait fishing will produce some large spurdog, dogfish and thornback rays.

For diverse and unique fishing, the waters in the Oban area are ideal for casual and experienced anglers alike.

Harry Young works for Toltech Internet Solutions and writes on behalf of Loch Melfort Hotel. A family run, comfortable and friendly 3-star hotel on the romantic coast of Argyll in the Scottish Highlands with the finest views on the West coast. Offering the very best in service, tranquil accommodation, tasteful decor and a gourmet dining experience made with fresh local seafood and produce (the restaurant has been awarded two Rosettes by the AA every year since 2000). The ideal base for sea fishing in the Oban area.
