Guide to Buying Miter Saws

In the good old days a miter saw was something pretty simple, this held the blade in place. This made sure that the blade was held at a specific angle. These tools were normally designed to allow you to make precision cuts at 90 and 45 degree angles by simply adjusting the saw. These were typically manual hand saws which could easily be used to cut frames, or chair moldings to shape. There will be many people that still use this form of manual mitre saw because it works ok and so there is no need to replace it.

I've got the Power!

Power is often the most important thing when looking at tools. Buying power tools saves a lot of time and effort as you don't have to spend so long doing difficult manual labor. There is nothing wrong with a handsaw, it does the job that it's designed to do. However a power saw is not only faster but it should also result in a more accurate and cleaner cut. Power tools are becoming more popular because they aren't really any more expensive than a standard saw. Not only this but power tools also make your job much easier, you no longer have to put in any manual labor to get beautiful looking results.

If you are looking for more professional miter saws then there are plenty of models which may be of interest to you. Some radial saws will allow you to adjust the degree very accurately which will allow you to cut wood at a number of different angles.

Another Angle to Miter Saws

Mitre cuts aren't just great for making picture frames and cutting the moldings but they are also very important for making table tops, and counter tops. You can use a compound mitre saw to make a compound cut this will make counter tops safer as it puts a beveled cut on the straight edge of the top.

You can get a similar result if you use a radial arm saw, however doing this will require several passes through the machines at different angles. A good radial saw is the Dewalt model, however this is no longer sold in America. You should be able to pick one of these up second hand as they are still a fantastic mitre saw.

Panel saws are needed when doing any cabinetry work. These saws are designed to cut large pieces of plywood into rectangular shapes. These are perfect for cabinets. A mitre saw could then be used to create the frame, doors and draws. The frame is normally made out of a softwood because it is fairly inexpensive and easy to work with.

There are many different types of saws which are needed to make a functional workshop. If you don't want a miter saw then go for a radial saw.
