Customer Review: Well made but with some design changes can be top notch
This pack is very well made, good quality materials and construction. The side access to your camera is a great feature, although difficult to do without taking the right shoulder strap off. Still better than taking the whole pack off. I did find that whenever I want to change a lens, the entire pack needs to come off and rest on the ground on it's back, which means whatever dirt and sticks it touches are now on your back. Seems there must be a better way. Secondly, the camera compartment dividers are very limited as to their layout due to very few strips of velcro, so you end up with way too much space for your body, which is wasted and can't be used for anything else and a body that bounces around. And I can't get it configured well for my lenses because of the divider issue. They should have made the entire interior able to attach velcro dividers any where so it can be best configured to match your equipment. The other major flaw is that the flap with two straps that go over the camera compartment are a nice added safety/security feature, but this is the only place to attach a tripod, which means that every time you want to change lenses, the tripod has to be detached and reattached. They should have put a tripod mount vertically along the side to prevent this and be better aligned with body. My final gripes are that the water bottle holder is only big enough for a ~16 oz bottle--no Nalgene liter going in there w/o falling out easily. Also, there are only two memory card slots although there is plenty of room for many more and CF cards are hard to access in them. Also, a card/battery pocket in the waist belt would have been nice. But it does have a waist belt and sternum strap, which are both comfortable and easy to use. On the good side, the upper compartment is large enough for a liter of water, lunch, jacket and other misc items. There are two other sizable accessory pockets on the back as well. I just wish the design/function for tripod, water bottle and divider adjustment were better instead of just making this an exact larger replica of their smaller versions of this bag. One more thing: don't buy the kit with the tripod--the tripod is horrible. Buy just the bag and get a real tripod.
